Giving the Dogs Their Due

I'm going to give my dogs their due... which is the opposite of what normally happens when they give me their doo. As in doo-doo for the readers who don't remember the 5 year old phrase for Mr. Poopy.

In a year without leave time... which is like that old Rankin/Bass A Year Without a Santa Claus... I've decided to spend money that would have normally gone towards field trips and vacations and instead put it into home improvement projects.

The dogs are getting the back yard. We're going to fence it up and turn it into a dog theme park complete with a doggie version of Space Mountain and nightly fireworks. What a treat that'll be.

As part of operation kill lots of trees, we're going to also (finally) put the deck on the back of the house. I'll miss the door to no where that we have now, but I'm guessing I'll like it even better when the door actually goes somewhere. The dogs will probably also like not having to jump 15 feet down to get to their new Doggie Didney Whurl.

If I have any money left over, we're going to do some landscaping and put in a patio or something similar.

Then, dogs allowing, we'll have a grand opening party.

Since I keep forgetting to write here... here's a quick updated:
Kerie's going back to school.
My jaw is better.
My insomnia is out of control.
My knee is crunchy.

Oh and Max the puppy loves to eat romance novels. That's a good boy, Max.

March Madness

March Madness is all the rage. People are all into brackets and foursomes and all sorts of things these days. What a great big waste of oxygen.

I don't like basketball. So there may be some bias there.

I've also never really understood the big deal behind college sports of any type. I imagine that it's all funded by the nut jobs in Texas that go crazy for high school football. At my old high school football games, it was just an excuse to get together with friends and hang out. I don't know if our team was any good or not. I don't think I ever watched a game. And I do like football. I coached intermural football for two years in college. I coached two different teams and both one the championship. That was fun. But it was because I was actually involved, not just watching it on TV while melting into the couch with chili con queso and nachos.

Kids often like to play basketball in the street on which I live. I often try to run them over on my way home from work. They're too fast though. One day... one day.

I need a faster car. With a plow.

Ow! My Fricken Jaw!

So... shockingly... more medical drama in my life. This is mostly over I suppose, so that's good.

At the end of last year, I broke two adjacent teeth. One needed a root canal and crown, the other just a filling. I got that done with no real problems. I was then advised that I should get my lower wisdom teeth out. No problem either.

Lies.

The wisdom teeth came out fairly easily. On the scale of one to ten, the left one was a 2 and the right was a 6. Also, apparently I'm damn funny on nitrous oxide.

I ruined a part of jeans because in my drugged out haze, I tried to spit some blood out and basically just dribbled blood into my lap and down my leg. About 20 minutes later, the crimson tide was done and Percocet was taking me to a special place.

Fast forward 24 hrs. My entire left side of my face was in agony. From my chin to my ear. My lymph nodes were swollen, I had a fever, and I was popping narcotics like Pez. I went back to the dentist on day 3. Turns out that I had dry sockets. No blood clot ever formed where my toothy tooth was and instead I had a little bit of exposed bone and a large exposed nerve cluster at the bottom. Solution.... drugs... drugs... lots of drugs.

Fast forward to today, over a month from extraction... I'm almost healed. There is still a small patch of exposed root from the neighboring tooth that hasn't covered over yet. It only hurts when I drink now. As such, I passed out in a director's office during due to dehydration. I drink very little daily... often less than 36oz of total liquid consumption. Room temperature gatorade is the beverage of choice.

The exposed root should be healed over in 1 - 4 weeks.

sigh.

On a positive note, we made an offer to a dude to be my assistant, so it looks like I'll be able to take a breath at the job.
