25% Awesome

So, as you may know... I'm getting my leg chopped up in a few days. Tomorrow is my last day at work before what will likely be a month out of the office. I notified the work factory about this five weeks ago... ample time to plan. So we planned.

Then I got sick with bronchitis and missed most of last week.

So this week... everyone's in a panic.

What's actually funny is that I'm going to end up getting everything done in the four days I'm here this week. Basically, I'm doing 4 weeks worth of work in 4 days. And I'm enjoying it.

I think I should use this to my advantage. I should only work one week a month.

In the old days at the White House, I had a boss who told me I'd be in for a real eye opener when I left because apparently I could be equally successful with only exerting 25% of the effort.

He was right!

I don't know what to do with piles of time and relaxedness. Nope. But put me in a crash/crunch and I'm off to the races.

So I'm going to take the next month off. Get a new leg. Maybe be back in April.

I'll probably post here more frequently since I'll have some serious time on my hands. The first few posts may just be something like

"owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww my leg!!!!"

or

"drugs... awesome"

or

"how does an idiot become a police man?"
(that is my private moustache!")

or

"today, i watched seventeen episodes of The Facts of Life and Mindy is looking sexier every minute"

Five days left with a right leg.

Are We Out of Missiles?

Sorry I've been out of pocket lately. I've been laid up with bronchitis. Blech.

Anyway... I saw that in response to the US endorsing Kosovo's independence, our friends the psychotic Serbians attacked and burned part of the US Embassy.

And the US is basically saying, "don't do that".

Did someone at the pentagon forget that a US Embassy is a piece of US sovereignty? I'm having flashbacks to Iranian and Vietnamese embassy demolitions. I think one marine with a machine gun could have fixed the problem. Protesting is one thing, but it'd be nice if when an angry mob attacks our buildings, they'd be shot. And grenaded.

Maybe after Operation Desert Debacle, we're out of ammo.

That's a shame.

Dream Teams?

Heh, Happy VD to you all!

So... as the primaries are starting to wind down, I'm thinking more and more about general election that's en route and about potential running mates.

It's fairly clear that the election will pit McCain vs Obama. That's a pretty good fight in my opinion. McCain would have rather had the Hilbot to run against, but alas, he baggage (real or perceived) dragged he down.

I'm interested in who these two are going to choose as their running mates.

I really, really hope that Obama takes Edwards on. I think the two of them would work well and I genuinely like Edwards.

If I were McCain... I'd do all that I could to bring Colin Powell in.

I think that Powell brings a level of respect to the republican ticket that McCain doesn't have. The strong right of the Repubs have never liked him and the middle of the road and indies are souring on the recent Bush lovin' that they've seen.

In 1995 I made a prediction that Powell would be the first black man elected to the White House as a Pres or VP... I still think he's got it in him.

Powell got screwed by the Bushites but didn't really burn any bridges when he left.

I think an Obama/Edward & McCain/Powel race would be a pretty interesting race to watch.

I Couldn't Sleep So...

I entered a multi-table online poker tournament.

There were 351 players. I just finished in 27th place.

That was the largest poker game I've ever played. It was arranged that each table had six players so you can do the math to figure out how many tables I went through.

I don't know what the current legal status is regarding online poker... so I was just playing for fun. Now... if it had been an actual cash tournament... the top 36 spots would win cash. Additionally, you'd win a bounty for each player you eliminated from the tournament. I ended up knocking out 3 players.

Turned out to be a profitable use of insomnia.

Had it been for real money. Because it was for... um... fun.

I just checked the final results... turns out the #1 and #4 overall players were sitting at my final table (I was knocked out by the guy who finished in 1st place).

Hide and Go Seek On the Internet

Oh crap... well you found the blog. It was hiding very cleverly behind the internets.

OK... now it's your blog's turn to go hide and I'll try to find it. Ready?

Go!

Why, Oh Why Can't I Sleep Like a Normal Person?

So, it's not a news flash that my sleep activity has been a bit of a problem for me over the past year or so. Usually, I'm on the lesser side of the sleep equation. Lately, I've flipped to the greater side and that seems to be even worse.

Last night... I slept 17 hours. That's like a baby coma. I woke up several times during that time and felt exhausted the entire time. I've been finding myself getting 7-8 hours of sleep lately but wake up feeling exhausted. It's not a sleep apnea thing... but it's like the sleep I get is useless.... it's like teasing my body.

It's quite likely that I'll end up avoiding sleep for fear that I might feel worse than if I didn't or oversleep and miss something.

Sigh.

Anyway... Eva (my girl dog) is having sleep issues too. She's taken to barking in her sleep. It's not a loud bark, it's kinda cute. But it wakes her up and she looks around like, "who's barking while I'm trying to sleep?" Then she lays her head down and does it again.

In the meantime... surgery looms... 21 days, 15 hours, 40 minutes.

There is certainly a level of anxiety growing there. I can only guess, but I imagine that will grow as that cut date approaches. I'm very thankful that a good friend will be helping me get through the tough days immediately prior to the surgery.

A Quick Hitter

This is a quick note of congrats to Art Monk and Darrell Green for (finally) getting into the NFL Hall of Fame.

Both men were amazing athletes and are both stand up guys. They both played the sport of professional football in a way that's lost on most players now. They both started out making minimum amounts of cash and earned every bit of their clout through hard work.

I met Darrell Green once and he was an incredible guy to talk to. I met Art Monk a few times while working at George Mason. We ran housing for his summer football camps and I got to talk to him at length quite a few times. He's very cool.

It's nice to see two guys who were actually decent himan beings who were also amazing athletes get their kudos in a day when people are more likely to be rewarded with multimillion dollar sponsorships because of their attitude and bad boy natures.

It's like the world is cleaning itself up... Michael Vick is in jail... and hopefully raped daily... and Green and Monk are getting inducted to the Hall of Fame.

Well done indeed.
